PROPOSED RESOLUTION
ANNETTE BUTLER, IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, Annette Butler, was born on September 14, 1938 to the union of Ozell and Earl Walter Smith in Chicago, Illinois. Annette Butler was the eldest of 5 children born to this union; and
WHEREAS, Annette Butler accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. Joseph Grammar School. Mr. Smith recognized the musical blessings bestowed to his children, cultivating their musical talents through involvement with the choir at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Annette's audiences witnessed her brilliant multifaceted gifts in both music and singing; and
WHEREAS, Annette Butler attended Lucy Flower High School where she received her high school diploma. Annette Butler pursued higher education after completing high school by enrolling and attending Wilson Junior College; and
WHEREAS, Annette Butler along with her siblings, Earl, Benny and sister Mable, formed the singing group, The Crusaders; and
WHEREAS, the Crusaders would also include a handsome, talented young man named, Jerry Butler creating the connection which would lead to a courtship and love best described as a fairy tale; and
WHEREAS, Annette Butler's love continued to inspire and motivate Jerry's heart. Jerry walked more than 20 miles, sometimes twice a week to Annette's home to save bus fare. These long walks & moonlit nights created an unbreakable unity between Annette and Jerry; and
WHEREAS on June 21, 1959, Annette and Jerry wed in Holy Matrimony; and
WHEREAS, Annette Butler found peace and comfort in Buddhism in the early 1970s. Annette used her newfound peace through Buddhism to face adversity finding solace in becoming in tune with nature. Annette positively influenced several others and was instrumental in assisting many others to practice Buddhism, including her husband Jerry. However, Annette also remained close to her Christian spiritual relationship with the Lord; and
