WHEREAS, the Village of Richton Park proudly celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2026, marking a century of growth, resilience, community pride, and unwavering commitment to progress since its incorporation on June 8, 1926; and

WHEREAS, long before its incorporation, the land that would become Richton Park served as an important crossroads for Indigenous peoples, with the historic Sauk Trail functioning as a significant route used by the Sauk and Potawatomi peoples for travel, trade, and connection between settlements and sacred areas across the region; and

WHEREAS, Richton Park's history is deeply tied to the broader American story of freedom and opportunity, with historical accounts identifying portions of the region as part of the Underground Railroad, offering refuge and hope to enslaved Africans and African Americans seeking liberation and safe passage toward freedom in Canada; and

WHEREAS, the arrival of the Illinois Central Railroad in 1852 established a transportation and economic hub where the rail line intersected with Sauk Trail, laying the foundation for the future development of a thriving agricultural settlement that would later become the Village of Richton Park; and

WHEREAS, in 1926, following the electrification of the Illinois Central Railroad suburban line, local residents officially incorporated the Village of Richton Park, establishing a municipality rooted in hard work, civic engagement, and a shared vision for growth and opportunity; and

WHEREAS, Richton Park evolved from a modest railroad and farming community surrounded by agricultural lands into a vibrant and diverse suburban municipality, experiencing substantial growth during the latter half of the twentieth century as families and businesses made the community their home; and
