PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING MAYOR AL LARSON
WHEREAS, Mayor Al Larson was elected Mayor of Schaumburg in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Larson has served in his role as mayor for 30 years as of his current term; and
WHEREAS, prior to his election Mayor Larson was very active in his community in a number of different capacities such as; Pace Board Director, CMAP Board Member, NWMC President, IML President, Steering Committee for Transportation of the National League of Cities, Meet Chicago Northwest Convention Bureau Board member, Arts Alliance Illinois Board member, Council of Mayors representing northwest Cook County, and Joint Action Water Agency Chair; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Larson has additionally served in a number of elected offices as well, as the Public Relations Director for Schaumburg, Member of Zoning Board of Appeals, Chair of the Environmental Committee, and 12 years as a Village Trustee; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure he has contributed to a series of beautifications, acquisitions and infusions of culture and fine arts that Schaumburg has branded as a progressive community steeped in commerce, culture and family values; and
WHEREAS, these improvements include; the establishment of Olde Schaumburg Centre, the development of a 85 mile bikeway, the development of the Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary, a 135 acre nature center, and the design and designation of Schaumburg’s Regional Center and Schaumburg Road’s Corridor Plan; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Larson has led a life devoted to serving the residents of the Village of Schaumburg and the people of Cook County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Commissioners that Mayor Al Larson is honored for his milestone of 30 years as Mayor of the Village of Schaumburg.
