Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NATHAN JOHNSON NAMED AS SOLDIER OF THE YEAR BY ILLINOIS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD WHEREAS, in April of this year, Arlington Heights resident Nathan Johnson became one of the youngest soldiers ever, at just 19 years old, to win first place in the physically grueling, three-day Illinois National Guard Best Warrior Competition; and WHEREAS, The Best Warrior Competition tests soldiers' physical strength, mental agility, and analytical and decision-making skills through events including an Army Combat Fitness Test, marksmanship tests, land navigation, medical tasks, and a 12-mile road race under 50 pounds of weight in military gear; and WHEREAS, in addition to his military training, Nathan has also been managing a full course load at Harper College in his pursuit of becoming a warrant officer; and WHEREAS, beyond his Harper courses and military training, Nathan has been attending aviation school in his free time, with plans to transfer to the Universi...

RECOGNIZING NATHAN JOHNSON NAMED AS SOLDIER OF THE YEAR BY ILLINOIS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

WHEREAS, in April of this year, Arlington Heights resident Nathan Johnson became one of the youngest soldiers ever, at just 19 years old, to win first place in the physically grueling, three-day Illinois National Guard Best Warrior Competition; and

WHEREAS, The Best Warrior Competition tests soldiers' physical strength, mental agility, and analytical and decision-making skills through events including an Army Combat Fitness Test, marksmanship tests, land navigation, medical tasks, and a 12-mile road race under 50 pounds of weight in military gear; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his military training, Nathan has also been managing a full course load at Harper College in his pursuit of becoming a warrant officer; and

WHEREAS, beyond his Harper courses and military training, Nathan has been attending aviation school in his free time, with plans to transfer to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the fall to continue studying toward a bachelor's degree in political science and an associate degree in aviation; and

WHEREAS, amidst all his ongoing work for both himself and his county, Nathan continues to exude a sense of purpose and humility that guides his actions; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of Nathan's success at the Competition, his rank as a junior enlisted man, and all his outstanding achievements Nathan Johnson was named Soldier of the Year by the Illinois Army National Guard at the April 2024 competition; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby offer its wholehearted congratulations to Nathan Johnson in recognition of this most deserved award and offer its most sincere wishes for his continued success; and
