Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE 70th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OF AL AND JANE KLEIN WHEREAS, in the 1950s in Chicago, Al Klein attended St. Rita High School on the South Side and his future wife Jane attended Longwood Academy; and WHEREAS Al and Jane Klein first met at a teen dance at St. Sabina Church in Chicago; and WHEREAS Al and Jane were married in 1954; and WHEREAS in the early years the couple moved 19 times, including to Urbana, Illinois, in their first years of marriage, while Al attended the University of Illinois; and Germany while Al was stationed with the U.S. Army's meteorological corps; and WHEREAS Al and Jane first passed through the Village of Arlington Heights while driving north on Route 14 on the way to a vacation in Wisconsin; they later bought a home and moved to the village in 1960 with their children; and WHEREAS their family grew to twelve children and several additions to the family home; and WHEREAS Al and the nine boys were very active in Boy Scout Troop ...

HONORING THE 70th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OF AL AND JANE KLEIN

WHEREAS, in the 1950s in Chicago, Al Klein attended St. Rita High School on the South Side and his future wife Jane attended Longwood Academy; and

WHEREAS Al and Jane Klein first met at a teen dance at St. Sabina Church in Chicago; and

WHEREAS Al and Jane were married in 1954; and

WHEREAS in the early years the couple moved 19 times, including to Urbana, Illinois, in their first years of marriage, while Al attended the University of Illinois; and Germany while Al was stationed with the U.S. Army's meteorological corps; and

WHEREAS Al and Jane first passed through the Village of Arlington Heights while driving north on Route 14 on the way to a vacation in Wisconsin; they later bought a home and moved to the village in 1960 with their children; and

WHEREAS their family grew to twelve children and several additions to the family home; and

WHEREAS Al and the nine boys were very active in Boy Scout Troop 166 in Arlington Heights; the couple's sons remember a childhood that "was like being at a Boy Scout summer camp all year round." Al continued in scout leadership after his sons aged out of the program; and

WHEREAS Al worked as an engineer with the American Can Company in Barrington and developed several patents. One patent in 1965 resulted in a stronger bottom for aerosol cans; and

WHEREAS after the children were grown, Jane, a bookkeeper by trade, worked 15 years for the Daily Herald in the accounts payable department; and

WHEREAS Jane still files the couple's taxes every year and the couple enjoys outings to community concerts and events; and

WHEREAS Al and Jane are devout Catholics, dedicated to the Knights of Columbus and St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, where Al is the oldest living past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus chapter at St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, being named Grand Knight in 1966; and
