PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING ALINA SCHULTZ AND SOPHIE SARGON ON RECEIVING FIRST PLACE IN THE 5TH GRADE CATEGORY WITH THE ILLINOIS STUDENT INVENTION CONVENTION
WHEREAS, Alina Schultz and Sophie Sargon, 5th Grade students at North Shore Country Day, received first place in the Fifth Grade Category at The Illinois Student Invention Convention annual Celebration, Showcase, & Awards; and
WHEREAS, The Illinois Student Invention Convention is a competition for kid inventors to think about and create solutions for real-world problems. Its mission is to empower the next generation of problem-solvers by educating, connecting, and celebrating student innovators; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 18th at the South Side YMCA in Chicago the Illinois Student Invention Convention celebrated the state's top young inventors. The event recognized 79 student winners selected from a pool of 218 competitors statewide, which were narrowed from over 4,500 participating students; and
WHEREAS, The Celebration event featured remarks from Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, interactive STEM activity stations, student invention showcases, and innovation workshops; and
WHEREAS, 34 students, including Alina and Sophie, were selected to represent Illinois and compete at the Invention Convention Worldwide at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Alina and Sophie won for their project "Solis Tentorium", a solar-powered tent programmed to provide lighting, heating, and cooling for the homeless population.; and
WHEREAS, Approximately five hundred thousand people in the United States are homeless, this fueled Alina and Sophie's desire to create a working prototype. Their final project was a water-proof solar-powered tent with a cooling fan, heated blanket, and lighting; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate and commend Alina Schultz and Sophie Sargon on this impressive and well-deserved awa...
