PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF WASH WESLEY
WHEREAS, God, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to call Wash Wesley from our midst on November 14, 2015 at the age of 112; and,
WHEREAS, Wash Wesley was, at the time of his death, the oldest man in the State of Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, Wash Wesley was born January 21, 1903 in Ferriday, Louisiana to John and Luella Wesley and moved to the city of Maywood, Illinois in 1950 where he worked for Elmwood Park Ford and Oak Park Arms for many years; and,
WHEREAS, Wash Wesley was a very active deacon at Second Baptist Church and was well known throughout the community for being a man of devout faith and strong independence; and,
WHEREAS, at the age of 112, Wash Wesley had no objects to assist him such as canes, hearing aids, or walkers and was described as a person who did everything himself from cooking and cleaning to dancing and driving; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor of Maywood, Edwenna Perkins, has recognized Wash Wesley's birthday every year and Wash Wesley will be long remembered as a figure of great wisdom and enthusiasm for life;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners that the life of Wash Wesley is to be celebrated, and that the sincere appreciation of the President and the Board of Commissioners is to be extended to the survivors of Wash Wesley for his life and his contributions to his community and Cook County.
