PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE SPANISH COALITION FOR HOUSING'S 25TH ANNUAL HOMEBUYER EXPO - CAMINO A SU CASA
WHEREAS, the Spanish Coalition for Housing (SCH) initiated its grassroots organizing in 1966, when community members in Chicago's North and South Side neighborhoods came together to address issues facing the Latino community; and
WHEREAS, the Spanish Coalition for Housing was formally incorporated in 1972, advocating for fair housing on behalf of the Latino community; and
WHEREAS, in 1973, SCH became the first organization to be certified as a Housing Counseling Agency by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); and
WHEREAS, the Spanish Coalition for Housing's mission is to help low-to-moderate-income households build generational wealth through housing counseling, financial literacy, and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, vital services provided by SCH include homeowner education, financial coaching, foreclosure education, rental and mortgage assistance, landlord certification, utility assistance, connections to capital, and healthcare support; and
WHEREAS, the Spanish Coalition for Housing has been tirelessly fighting to advance economic mobility, serving 5,500 clients across the Chicagoland region per year, with 75 percent of clients coming from low-income and underserved populations; and
WHEREAS, since the inception of its Homebuyer Expo in 2002, the Spanish Coalition for Housing has connected more than 6,200 families throughout Cook County to HUD-certified housing counselors, pre-purchase counseling, homebuyer education, and trusted industry partners including government agencies, lenders, realtors, insurers, home inspectors, and attorneys helping to make homeownership more attainable, affordable, and sustainable; and
WHEREAS, Camino A Su Casa has become Chicagoland's largest and premier homebuying expo; and
