PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CHICAGO POLICE COUNCIL #12173 ON ITS 20th ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, St. Michael the Archangel is the acknowledged patron saint of police officers, soldiers, and paratroopers; and
WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus comprises male members of the Roman Catholic faith and was founded in 1882 on the core principal of helping the most needy in the community, and this remains true today; and
WHEREAS, there are roughly 15,000 the Knights of Columbus councils worldwide; and
WHEREAS, St. Michael the Archangel Knights of Columbus Chicago Police Council #12173 was founded March 26, 1998; and
WHEREAS, St. Michael the Archangel Knights of Columbus Chicago Police Council #12173 is the first and only Knights of Columbus Council composed of and dedicated to active and retired members of law enforcement, the judiciary, and the military; and
WHEREAS, Council #12173's current membership of active and retired Chicago Police, Cook County Sheriff's Deputies, and Illinois State Police personnel represents more than 4,000 years of law enforcement experience; and
WHEREAS, Council #12173's members represent geographical areas encompassing Chicago, Cook County, and more than forty suburban areas, as well as members residing in Arizona, Florida, Nevada, Texas, and Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Council #12173's active and retired United States military members include those who have served honorably in the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force; and
WHEREAS, among the many causes Council #12173 supports are the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, Gold Star Families, Police Chaplains Ministry, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Blair School.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate St. Michael the Archangel Knights of Columbus Chicago Police Council #12173 on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary; and
