Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION URGING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO CONVENE AND PASS HOUSE BILL 4733 WHEREAS, at the November 4, 2014 general election, voters approved a Statewide advisory referendum calling for an increase in the minimum wage from $8.25 per hour to $10.00 hour statewide beginning on January 1, 2015; and WHEREAS, 2,339,173 Illinois residents voted in favor of raising the minimum wage to $10.00 per hour which is more than 66% of the total votes cast on the advisory referendum; and WHEREAS, the Illinois Senate passed House Bill 4733 providing for an increase in the minimum wage on a statewide basis on December 3, 2014; and WHEREAS, in order to become law, House Bill 4733 must be passed by a constitutional majority in the Illinois House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, House Bill 4733 responds to the expressed preference of the vast majority of the State's voters by raising the minimum wage throughout Illinois. WHEREAS, at the November 4, 2014 general election, voters approved a Statewide advisory referendum calling for an increase in the minimum wage from $8.25 per hour to $10.00 hour statewide beginning on January 1, 2015; and
 
WHEREAS, 2,339,173 Illinois residents voted in favor of raising the minimum wage to $10.00 per hour which is more than 66% of the total votes cast on the advisory referendum; and
 
WHEREAS, the Illinois Senate passed House Bill 4733 providing for an increase in the minimum wage on a statewide basis on December 3, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, in order to become law, House Bill 4733 must be passed by a constitutional majority in the Illinois House of Representatives; and
 
WHEREAS, House Bill 4733 responds to the expressed preference of the vast majority of the State's voters by raising the minimum wage throughout Illinois.
 
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Board of Commissioners of Cook County urges the the Illinois House of Representatives of the Ninety-Eighth General Assembly to reconvene, whether by special session or through other means, at the earliest opportunity to consider and approve House Bill 4733 and transmit it to the Governor for his signature so that it can become law on a Statewide basis.
