WHEREAS, Association House of Chicago was founded in 1899 and established by Ellen Holt, who was inspired by the work of her teacher Jane Addams, out of a profound sense of "neighbor helping neighbor;" and
 
WHEREAS, initially working in partnership with the Young Women's Christian association, Association House secured its first building on North and Milwaukee, before eventually relocating to its current Humboldt Park location to be centrally located within the community which it serves; and
 
WHEREAS, for more than 115 years, Association House has served as a vital resource to underserved and underrepresented communities through the settlement house model. Association House's mission is to serve a multi-cultural community by providing comprehensive, collaborative, and effective programs in English and Spanish, promoting health and wellness, and creating opportunities for educational and economic advancement; and
 
WHEREAS, Association House provides a continuum of effective, bilingual programs that address life-changing opportunities for community members, meeting their immediate need as well as their long-term goals, organized into five broad service areas: Community Services, Behavioral Health, Prevention and Educational Development, Child Welfare, and El Cuarto Año High School; and
 
WHEREAS, today Association House, with a budget of over 12 million and led by Ms. Harriett Sadauskas, who joined the organization 40 years ago as a secretary for the senior outreach program, rising up through the ranks, together with her team of more than 200 employees, continues to serve as a beacon of the community impacting the lives of nearly 20,000 children, individuals and families each year in the neighborhoods of Humboldt Park, West Town, Logan Square, Avondale, Hermosa, and beyond.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does, hereby, congratulate and recognize Association House of Chicago for its legacy of over 115 years of serving Chicago's underserved communities and Ms. Harriett Sadauskas for her commitment, leadership and vision.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Association House.
