PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING HANOVER TOWNSHIP’S 165TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Hanover was organized as a Township on April 2, 1850, primarily to provide government closer to home than the county seat in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, in 1850 the first federal census of Hanover Township reported a population of 672 and ten years later that population had grown to 926, with most residents coming from the Kingdom of Hanover in western Germany; and
WHEREAS, the population of Hanover Township has, over the past 165 years, grown to over 99,000 people; and
WHEREAS, today Hanover Township contains parts of the municipalities of Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, and Streamwood - as well as portions of unincorporated Cook County; and
WHEREAS, Hanover Township continues 165 years of excellent service to residents with a wide range of valuable services that enrich and better the lives and wellbeing of everyone in the Township; and
WHEREAS, these services range from providing residents a food pantry, health and wellness resources, clinics, immunizations, transportation services, an open gym, emergency response services, help for those in need, and other resources and support to empower residents in achieving self-sustainability.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County hereby congratulates Supervisor Brian P. McGuire, the Trustees, other elected officials, staff, and the great citizens of Hanover Township for their continuing celebrations of 165 years as a township; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be tendered to the elected officials of Hanover Township in recognition of this momentous event, and that it also be spread upon the proceedings of this honorable body.
