PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING DR. GENARO ROMO JR. ON HIS 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROMO DENTAL AND LONG STANDING SERVICE

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Genaro Romo Jr. was born on October 22, 1972 in Chicago, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo, one of four children of immigrant parents, was raised in Chicago’s Little Village community, a husband to Sandy Romo, and a father to four children, Alyssa, Nicholas, and Issac; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo is a graduate of Gary School, Bogan High School, University of Illinois Chicago, and the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo worked as an extern in the pediatrics department at the UIC College of Dentistry, and in 1999 he opened a small private practice on west Devon Avenue while still practicing in the Back of the Yards neighborhood; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2005, Dr. Romo purchased a dental office in Brighton Park from a retiring dentist and in 2009 he relocated and opened a state-of-the-art dental office next door, which is where he currently practices; and

 

WHEREAS,  Romo Dental employs a total of 5 dentists, 1 orthodontist, 2 hygienists, and 12 office personnel and has over 12,000 active patients, who are primarily children and adults on Medicaid; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo an active community member has volunteered in numerous county wide health fairs, sponsored countless youth organizations including baseball, soccer, volleyball teams and the boy scouts, and frequently does oral health presentations at local schools; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo for Thanksgiving, annually donates turkeys to Columbia Explorers Academy to parent volunteers highlighting parent involvement, as well as patients, and during Christmas he chooses several patients to receive free dental care for the next several years, while for Mother’s Day he provides free dental care for all mothers in need; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo is a commissioner for SSA 39 and recently gave a scholarship to a dental student for being active in community service; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo has served as a past President of the UIC College of Dentistry Alumni Board, President of the Chicago Chapter of the Hispanic Dental Association,  and North Side branch of the Chicago Dental Society; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo currently serves as the Chair for the Chicago Dental Society’s Communications Committee, Co-chair for the UIC’s Campus Alumni Advisory Board’s (CAAB) Awards Committee, a Trustee for the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), as Secretary for the Chicago Dental Society Foundation, the Secretary for the Independent Dental Organization, a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee at Chicago Dental Society, a member of the Communications Committee for ISDS, as a member of the Hispanic Dental Association, and as a spokesperson for the American Dental Association; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Romo frequently speaks to pre-dental students about a career in dentistry, and often mentors several dental students via the Chicago Dental Society; and

 

WHEREAS, during his high school, college and dental school years Dr. Romo was also known as Gino “Rockin” Romo, a DJ at the then Boys’ and Girls’ Club’s radio station WCYC 90.5 F.M., where he also learned about giving back to the community and the importance of our youth.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate Dr. Genaro Romo on his 10 year anniversary of Romo Dental.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the proceedings of this Honorable Body and that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Genaro Romo Jr. in honor of this auspicious occasion.
