Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CELEBRATING MS. ROBIN AIKENS BEING INDUCTED INTO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GOLF HALL OF FAME WHEREAS, On May 25, 2016, Ms. Robin Aikens will be inducted to the African American Golf Hall of Fame in Palms Beach Florida; and WHEREAS, Robin Aikens began playing golf at the tender age of 6 in Chicago, IL being introduced to the sport by her mother Rose Ross who registered her for golf lessons with the Bob-O-Links Junior Golf Club which is a division of The Chicago Women's Golf Club; and WHEREAS, by the time Robin was 9 years old, she excelled in the sport of golf and was competing in the Championship division where she aspired to beat the "big kids; and WHEREAS, at age 12 when Robin's family moved to Gary Indiana, she began to play the violin. She was accepted to Emerson School of Visual and Performing Arts High School. CELEBRATING MS. ROBIN AIKENS BEING INDUCTED INTO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GOLF HALL OF FAME

WHEREAS, On May 25, 2016, Ms. Robin Aikens will be inducted to the African American Golf Hall of Fame in Palms Beach Florida; and

WHEREAS, Robin Aikens began playing golf at the tender age of 6 in Chicago, IL being introduced to the sport by her mother Rose Ross who registered her for golf lessons with the Bob-O-Links Junior Golf Club which is a division of The Chicago Women's Golf Club; and

WHEREAS, by the time Robin was 9 years old, she excelled in the sport of golf and was competing in the Championship division where she aspired to beat the "big kids; and

WHEREAS, at age 12 when Robin's family moved to Gary Indiana, she began to play the violin. She was accepted to Emerson School of Visual and Performing Arts High School. Since her high school did not have a sports team, she walked on to the Gary Roosevelt High School Girls Golf Team and was awarded the Most Valuable Player for two years; and

WHEREAS, in 1988 after completing High School, Robin blazed a trail by being the first African American woman to play in the Purdue Symphony Orchestra 1st Violin Section, played golf for the Purdue University Women's Golf Team and carried a full course load of up to 18 hours some semesters and maintaining a 3.6 GPA; and

WHEREAS, Robin received her Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Sociology from Purdue University Calumet in 1992; she also has obtained (2) Master of Arts degrees from Roosevelt University in Elementary Education and Educational Administration and Supervision with credits earned towards her Doctorate Degree at Nova Southeastern University in North Miami Beach, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Robin Aikens joined the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club (T&CP) Division in 2004. She has taught over 2,000 underprivileged youth the game of golf abroad in Trinidad, Jamaica, Hawaii, and Bahamas. In addition she ...
