PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING SUPERBOWL CHAMPION MICHAEL SCHOFIELD
WHEREAS, on February 7, 2016, the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 by defeating the Carolina Panthers by a score of 24 to 10; and
WHEREAS, one player on the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos, is Number 79, right tackle, Michael Schofield, who is a native of Cook County and specifically Orland Park in the 17th District; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield began playing football in sixth grade where he played for the Orland Park Pioneers; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield played football while a student at Carl Sandburg High School and as a sophomore became a lineman and as a senior he was a special mention 2008 Chicago Tribune All-State selection; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield was recruited by and committed to play at the University of Michigan where he played all 52 possible games; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield earned 2013 All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention recognition and excelled in the pre 2014 Senior Bowl earning NFL Network player of the day on Wednesday, January 22; and
WHEREAS, after Michael Schofield’s superb career at the University of Michigan, on day 2 of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos drafted Michael with the 95th overall selection in the third round; and
WHEREAS, in his second year as a professional NFL player, Michael became the starting right tackle for the Denver Broncos; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield admittedly had a lot to learn but saved his best performances for the postseason where he once again excelled in his position; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield knowing the importance of maintaining a healthy body and also knowing the dangers of abusing one’s body, he has made it a priority since his college days and now as a professional athlete to speak against drug abuse and making young people aware of those dangers; and
WHEREAS, Michael Schofield, due to his incredible work ethic and devotion to excelling at his craft is now a Super Bowl Champion; and
WHEREAS, Michael shared this special moment in time and had his own cheering section at the Super Bowl including his father, Mike; Mom, Kathy; siblings, Nicole, Stephanie, Kathleen, Jacqueline and Andrew; as well as his girlfriend, Kendall Coyne, who played on the U. S. Women’s Hockey Team in the 2014 Olympics; and
WHEREAS, being a member of a winning Super Bowl team is one of the most coveted achievements in all of sports;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners joins with all sports fans in Cook County in extending our heartfelt congratulations to Michael Schofield for the outstanding achievement of being a Super Bowl Champion; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the text of this resolution be spread across the journal of proceedings of this honorable body and that a suitable copy hereof be presented to Michael Schofield.
