Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING REVEREND MARVIN E. WILEY ON 25 YEARS AS THE PASTOR OF ROCK OF AGES BAPTIST CHURCH WHEREAS, Reverend Marvin E. Wiley was ordained in May 1981 at the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he was also licensed at the age of seventeen and baptized at the age of seven; and, WHEREAS, Reverend Wiley served as a Pastor in Pine Bluff Arkansas from 1981-1991 until he made history by becoming the second pastor in forty years at Rock of Ages Church in March 1991; and, WHEREAS, due to the phenomenal growth the Church has encountered under the leadership of Reverend Wiley, a multi-million dollar Worship Service Facility was constructed at 1309 Madison Street to the glory of God and service of mankind; and, WHEREAS, under the guidance of Reverend Wiley, a 501(C) 3 organization, Vision of Restoration, Inc. was organized. PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING REVEREND MARVIN E. WILEY ON 25 YEARS AS THE PASTOR OF ROCK OF AGES BAPTIST CHURCH

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Marvin E. Wiley was ordained in May 1981 at the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he was also licensed at the age of seventeen and baptized at the age of seven; and,

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Wiley served as a Pastor in Pine Bluff Arkansas from 1981-1991 until he made history by becoming the second pastor in forty years at Rock of Ages Church in March 1991; and,

 

WHEREAS, due to the phenomenal growth the Church has encountered under the leadership of Reverend Wiley, a multi-million dollar Worship Service Facility was constructed at 1309 Madison Street to the glory of God and service of mankind; and,

 

WHEREAS, under the guidance of Reverend Wiley, a 501(C) 3 organization, Vision of Restoration, Inc. was organized. Vision of Restoration provides education and economic development, mental health and social services, and career development and enhancement for the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, since coming to Maywood, Reverend Wiley has continued to be concerned about evangelism both on a national, state and local level. He served on the executive committee of the corporate board of directors of the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Incorporated. He has also served on numerous civic and community boards during the course of his ministry; and,

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Wiley was recognized in March of 2006 by the Village of Maywood with an Honorary Street Sign that spans the corners of 12th & Madison through 14th & Madison Streets; and,

 

WHEREAS, most notably, Reverend Wiley was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia on April 3, 2008; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rock of Ages Church has experienced spiritual, numerical, and financial growth under Reverend Wiley’s dynamic leadership; and,

 

WHEREAS, former President William Jefferson Clinton, a native of Arkansas, came to Rock of Ages Church to celebrate Reverend Wiley's 25th Anniversary on Sunday, March 13th, 2016;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Cook County Board of Commissioners, to commend Pastor Marvin E. Wiley for his 25 years of service in his community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the sincere appreciation of the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners is extended to Reverend Marvin E. Wiley for his steadfast commitment to Rock of Ages Baptist Church and to the betterment of all humanity.
