PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING EVELYN CHINEA GARCÍA FOR HER CONTINUED DEDICATION TO THE COMMUNITIES OF COOK COUNTY IN HONOR OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

 

WHEREAS, March is Women's History Month in which we not only highlight the contributions of women in history but also in contemporary society; and

 

WHEREAS, Evelyn Chinea García, born in Chicago on May 31, 1959; and

 

WHEREAS,  raised by a single mom, who moved often to keep her children out of harms’ way, Evelyn Chinea García lived in several different Chicago neighborhoods growing up, including Lincoln Park and Garfield Park, before her family settled in Little Village; and

 

WHEREAS, Evelyn Chinea García married in 1977, and has two sons, a daughter, and three beautiful grandchildren; and 

 

WHEREAS, Evelyn Chinea García has dedicated her career to helping children with special needs in Chicago Public Schools (CPS); and

 

WHEREAS, Evelyn Chinea García attended the City Colleges of Chicago and studied Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC); and

 

WHEREAS, Evelyn Chinea García helped establish a non-profit childcare, and worked as a Bilingual Special Education Teacher’s Assistant before retiring from CPS in 2014; and 

 

WHEREAS, a founding member of the Southside’s Independent Political Organization (IPO), Evelyn Chinea García has been a constant source of inspiration and support to others throughout her life, no doubt due to her “si, se puede” attitude; and 

 

WHEREAS, for many years Evelyn Chinea García has worked through a debilitating illness, however, has continued to fight for fairness in the workplace as a union member, and has raised a family in challenging times; and  

 

WHEREAS, Evelyn Chinea García has a knack for helping others and continues to advocate for working families, and especially children.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby honors Evelyn Chinea García for her continued dedication to the communities of Cook County.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this text be spread upon the proceedings of this Honorable Body and that a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented to Evelyn Chinea García.
