Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING EDWARD PAESEL UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH SUBURBAN MAYORS AND MANAGERS ASSOCIATION WHEREAS, Edward Paesel, Executive Director of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) is retiring after a long and distinguished career of over four decades in the public sector; and WHEREAS, after receiving a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in History from Illinois State University in 1973, Edward Paesel began his extraordinary career of public service, first elected as a Sauk Village Trustee for four years and then elected as Mayor of the Village of Sauk Village from 1977 to 1989; he also served as President of SSMMA from 1981 to 1982; and WHEREAS, Edward Paesel served as Director of the Third Airport Information Clearinghouse from 1989 to 2000 and as a commissioner for the Northeastern Illinois Plan Commission (NIPC); and WHEREAS, in 2008, Edward Paesel was appointed to the METRA Commuter Rail Board of Directors; he had served on transporta...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING EDWARD PAESEL UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH SUBURBAN MAYORS AND MANAGERS ASSOCIATION

 

 

WHEREAS, Edward Paesel, Executive Director of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) is retiring after a long and distinguished career of over four decades in the public sector; and

 

WHEREAS, after receiving a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in History from Illinois State University in 1973, Edward Paesel began his extraordinary career of public service, first elected as a Sauk Village Trustee for four years and then elected as Mayor of the Village of Sauk Village from 1977 to 1989; he also served as President of SSMMA from  1981 to 1982; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Paesel served as Director of the Third Airport Information Clearinghouse from 1989 to 2000 and as a commissioner for the Northeastern Illinois Plan Commission (NIPC); and

 

WHEREAS, in 2008, Edward Paesel was appointed to the METRA Commuter Rail Board of Directors; he had served on transportation transition teams for both Governors Ryan and Blagojevich; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Paesel served SSMMA with excellence for 17 years; his many accomplishments include the securement of an unprecedented amount of grant funding for the region, the creation of the nationally recognized Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation (CSEDC) and the Chicago Southland Housing & Community Development Consortium (CSHCDC), and numerous lobbying efforts at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield on measures that impacted area municipalities; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Paesel works tirelessly for his community through his involvement on the boards of the South Suburban Land Bank & Development Authority and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP); and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Paesel also serves as a member of the Cook County Workforce Investment Board, a director of the Cook County Suburban Economic Development Corporation and the Bloom High School District #206 Education Foundation; in 2000 he was elected to the Bloom High School Hall of Fame; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Paesel made significant contributions to the County of Cook during his long tenure at SSMMA, and through his unswerving commitment to public service.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and Board of Commissioners of Cook County do hereby extend their best wishes for a happy, healthy and much deserved retirement and their thanks for his dedication to the residents of Cook County; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be tendered to Edward Paesel in recognition of his good works and the high esteem in which he is regarded by this Honorable Body.
