Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING OPERATION NORTH POLE FOR HELPING SICK CHILDREN IN NEED WHEREAS, Operation North Pole is a nonprofit organization focusing on helping seriously and terminally ill children and their families during the holiday season; and WHEREAS, in 2011, Operation North Pole's first fantasy trip consisted of thirty families taking the train to the "North Pole"- a quaint, 3,000-square-foot assembly hall transformed into a winter wonderland for the day's party and visit with Santa Claus; and WHEREAS, Operation North Pole works with Chicago's major children's hospitals to ensure that the entire family shares in the day's festivities, which include breakfast, a festive train ride, a visit with Santa, winter wonderland fun, entertainment, lavish treats, and personal wish list gifts, providing families with an unforgettable experience amidst very challenging times; and WHEREAS, every child is treated equally at Operation North Pole, and no child is considered sick on the...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

HONORING OPERATION NORTH POLE FOR HELPING SICK CHILDREN IN NEED

WHEREAS, Operation North Pole is a nonprofit organization focusing on helping seriously and terminally ill children and their families during the holiday season; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, Operation North Pole's first fantasy trip consisted of thirty families taking the train to the "North Pole"- a quaint, 3,000-square-foot assembly hall transformed into a winter wonderland for the day's party and visit with Santa Claus; and

WHEREAS, Operation North Pole works with Chicago's major children's hospitals to ensure that the entire family shares in the day's festivities, which include breakfast, a festive train ride, a visit with Santa, winter wonderland fun, entertainment, lavish treats, and personal wish list gifts, providing families with an unforgettable experience amidst very challenging times; and

WHEREAS, every child is treated equally at Operation North Pole, and no child is considered sick on the day of the event; and

WHEREAS, from these modest beginnings, Operation North Pole has grown and now charters a Metra train to transport seventy-five families, and the winter wonderland event is now held in the 28,000-square-foot main ballroom of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont; and

WHEREAS, Operation North Pole works diligently throughout the year so that it can fulfill children's specific wishes, designating $300 per child; and

WHEREAS, the scope of Operation North Pole has expanded to include working with Operation Warm and has provided in excess of five thousand new winter coats to children in need; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby recognize and honor Operation North Pole for the important work it does for sick and needy children and for its positive impact on Chicago-area families.
