PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE MONTCLARE ELMWOOD PARK LIONS CLUB ON ITS 70TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, the Montclare Elmwood Park (MCEP) Lions Club is a diverse group of men, women, and families who share a common vision of making their community a better place; and
WHEREAS, since being founded in 1947, the MCEP Lions have been making a profound impact on people's lives and society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the MCEP Lions live up to their motto of "We Serve" by stocking food pantries, recycling keys and cell phones to benefit battered women and shelters, caring for the elderly, providing programs and services for visually and hearing-impaired people, assisting the youth in the community, and helping combat disease; and
WHEREAS, signature projects of the MCEP Lions include Thanksgiving pie and Christmas food basket distribution, school supply donations, a Reading Carnival, and a scholarship award, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, with 46,000 clubs and 1.4+ million members, Lions International is the world's largest service club organization; and
WHEREAS, Lions International's mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding through Lions clubs; and
WHEREAS, the vision of Lions International is to be the global leader in community and humanitarian service; and
WHEREAS, significant accomplishments in the early years of Lions International include Helen Keller addressing the Lions Clubs International in 1925, challenging Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness"; and
WHEREAS, other early achievements include Lions International being one of the first nongovernmental organizations invited to assist in the drafting of the United Nations Charter. Lions have supported the work of the UN ever since; and
