PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING RAY OVERTON
WHEREAS, Ray Overton was born October 27, 1926 to Arthur L. Overton and Osca C. Presley; and
WHEREAS, in February 1952, Ray married Wilma Wilks of Colp, Illinois. He was drafted into the U.S. Army eight months later and was discharged two years later with an Honorable Discharge; and
WHEREAS, in 1956, he and his wife gave birth to their first daughter, Armintha, and in 1960 their second daughter Princess was born. After his wife passed away in 1961, Ray became his daughters’ primary caregiver; and
WHEREAS, in 1961, Ray successfully started Ray Overton Studios, as a Commercial Artist in the basement of his home. He remained in business for over 50 years and was still creating promotional advertising, sign art, lettering and graphic designs until he passed; and
WHEREAS, Ray was dedicated to his community, serving as Block Club President for 25 years; and bowled in as many as five bowling leagues at one time. He was an excellent bowler, captain, league secretary and president.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Cook County Board of Commissioners to celebrate the life of Ray Overton and the sincere appreciation of the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners is extended to the family of Ray Overton.
