PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING FR. GEORGE H. CLEMENTS 60TH ANNIVERSARY IN THE PRIESTHOOD
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Fr. George H. Clements is celebrating 60 years of service as a priest in the Roman Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 26, 1932; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements attended Corpus Christi Elementary School in Chicago and became the first African American graduate from Chicago's Quigley Academy Seminary in 1945; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Theology and a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from St. Mary of the Lake Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 3, 1957 by Cardinal Samuel Stritch; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements became pastor of Holy Angels Church in Chicago in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements has been an active advocate for social justice issues and marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr in Selma, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements originated the one church-one child program in the 1980's which utilized churches to find adoptive parents for African American children in need; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements started the one church-one addict program in Washington D.C. in the 1990's to assist recovering drug addicts through counseling and spiritual consolation; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements started the one church-one inmate program in 1999 to facilitate the transition of inmates from incarcerated life to life as productive and law-abiding citizens; and
WHEREAS, Fr. George H. Clements is the proud father of four adopted children: Joey, Friday, Stewart and Saint Anthony; and
WHEREAS, the hard work and dedication of Fr. George H. Clements has helped numerous individuals and children become thriving and productive members of society; therefore
