PROPOSED RESOLUTION
COMMEMORATING THE EXTRAORDINARY LIFE OF ELLEN BROWNE
WHEREAS, Ellen Browne represented some of the best qualities of citizenship and humanity through her work in healthcare advocating for issues concerning older adults and aging and as a volunteer in the community. When she died on April 22, 2017 she left behind family, countless friends and a community enriched for having known her;
WHEREAS, Ellen Browne was a tireless member, supporter and leader of the League of Women Voters of Evanston; she served as a board member for most of the past decade. She twice served as chair or co-chair of the Education Fund Dinner and was active in putting together the League's publication The Intercom as well as serving on the Nominating Committee; and
WHEREAS in her professional life, Ellen was a leader and pathfinder in designing and delivering health care and related services for older adults. She served for fifteen years as Vice President of Aging for the Lutheran General Health System. Post-retirement, Ellen took on a host of community volunteer and leadership roles, serving as board president of SASI-Services for Adults Staying in Their Homes-and North Shore Village and serving as a volunteer cuddler at the Cradle, an adoption agency in Evanston; and
WHEREAS, the community has lost a great friend in Elle Browne. She will also be sorely missed by her friends, neighbors and colleagues. Her loss will be felt most acutely by her husband of nearly 47 years, William Browne; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County commemorates the extraordinary life of Ellen Browne and herewith expresses its sincere gratitude for the invaluable contributions she has made to the Citizens of Cook County, Illinois; and
