Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THOMAS J. MAHONEY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM COOK COUNTY WHEREAS, after over fifteen years of service Thomas J. Mahoney will retire from Cook County on June 23, 2017; and WHEREAS, Thomas J. Mahoney has dutifully served the County of Cook for over fifteen years. In those years he served with distinction and earned the respect and affection of his co-workers, many of whom also describe themselves as friends. He is widely known for his exceptional kindness and magnanimity at work and as a tireless volunteer in the community; and WHEREAS, throughout his fifteen years at the County, Thomas J. Mahoney has served the citizens in multiple ways. Prior to his work as Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin's Property Tax Specialist he was Deputy Cook County Treasurer under Edward J. Rosewell. He was Chief Residential Analyst at the Cook County Board of Review under Brendan Hoolihan. He worked as a Scribe for the Cook County Recorder of Deeds ...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING THOMAS J. MAHONEY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM COOK COUNTY

 

WHEREAS, after over fifteen years of service Thomas J. Mahoney will retire from Cook County on June 23, 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Mahoney has dutifully served the County of Cook for over fifteen years.  In those years he served with distinction and earned the respect and affection of his co-workers, many of whom also describe themselves as friends. He is widely known for his exceptional kindness and magnanimity at work and as a tireless volunteer in the community; and  

 

WHEREAS, throughout his fifteen years at the County, Thomas J. Mahoney has served the citizens in multiple ways.  Prior to his work as Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin’s Property Tax Specialist he was Deputy Cook County Treasurer under Edward J. Rosewell.  He was Chief Residential Analyst at the Cook County Board of Review under Brendan Hoolihan.  He worked as a Scribe for the Cook County Recorder of Deeds under Sidney R. Olsen.  He was a law clerk in the administration of Cook County State’s Attorney Edward V. Hanrahan, and he worked for the city of Chicago as Supervisor of Special Assessments under Marshall Korshak; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout the years, Tom has been active in Illinois politics, and worked on a number of county, state and local elections where his excellent work was often singled out for distinction.  He was chosen Young Democrats, Man of the Year in 1975, was elected Chairman of the Young Democrats of Cook County in 1976, and was elected president of the Democrats of Northfield Township in 1978;  and 

 

WHEREAS, in addition to working for Cook County, Thomas J. Mahoney has been a successful business leader in the communityHe was President of Taxpayers’ Advocate, Inc., was owner of ICC Integrated Communications Coordinators, was Executive Director of the Waukegan Business Association and served his country in the United States Army Reserves; and

 

WHEREAS, after his retirement, Thomas J. Mahoney will have more time to dedicate himself more fully to his many charitable pursuits.  He is a founding member of the Northbrook Jaycees, was Chairman of the 4th of July Committee and is the Senior Vice-Commander of the American Legion post in Northbrook; and  

 

WHEREAS, during his lengthy career Thomas J. Mahoney has earned the respect, admiration and appreciation of the citizens of Cook County as well as his co-workers.  Constituents of the Thirteenth District regularly looked forward to their regular visits with him to get assistance with their property tax appeals; his patience and exceptional knowledge were deeply appreciated; and 

 

WHEREAS, there will likely be no greater anticipated post-retirement pursuit for Tom Mahoney than traveling and spending time with his treasured family, his wife Sheila, his children Meghan and Tom and his grandchildren, Katie and Ellie; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County takes great pleasure in honoring Thomas J. Mahoney on his retirement and herewith honors and thanks him for all that he has done bettering the lives of the citizens of Cook County, Illinois; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be tendered to Thomas J. Mahoney on the occasion of his retirement.
