PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE RETIREMENT OF ESTHER WONG AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CHINESE AMERICAN SERVICE LEAGUE
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Cook County Board of Commissioners that Esther Wong is retiring as the Executive Director of the Chinese American Service League; and
WHEREAS, Esther Wong has been a lifelong advocate for Chicago's Asian American Community; and
WHEREAS, Esther Wong completed her Bachelor's degree at the University of Hong Kong and received her M.A. from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration; and
WHEREAS, Ester Wong began her career as a social worker in Chicago's Chinatown community and was presented with the Community Services Award by the Asian American Coalition for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the Asian American community in Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Esther Wong served on the Board of the Chinese American Service League in the role of Vice President and was active a chairperson of many Board Committees; and
WHEREAS, Esther Wong serves on the Board of various local agencies that support the Asian American community including: National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development, the Coalition of African, Arab, Asian, European and Latino Immigrants of Illinois, the Chicago Job Council and the Governor's Asian Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, Esther Wong served as a founding member of the Chinatown Youth Club which provided leadership in youth recreational activities; and
WHEREAS, in April 2002, Esther Wong became Executive Director of the Chinese American Service League; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Esther Wong, the Chinese American Service League has implemented a broad range of social service programs to assist Chicago's Asian American community; and
WHEREAS, the hard work and dedication of Esther Wong has helped numerous Chinese American Service League clients become thriving members of the greater Chicago Community and product...
