PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING GLENWOOD ACADEMY FOR 130 YEARS OF SERVICE
WHEREAS, February 8, 2017 marks the 130th Anniversary of the founding of Glenwood Academy; and
WHEREAS, located in Glenwood, Illinois, the organization is a non-for-profit, residential education community that serves children and their families; and
WHEREAS, the Illinois Industrial Training School for Boys was founded by Oscar L. Dudley and Robert Todd Lincoln, son of Abraham Lincoln, son of the 16th President of the United States of America and Illinois Lawmaker; and
WHEREAS, for 130 years, Glenwood Academy has provided a safe haven and exemplary academic program to children who were unable to receive essential home care and a good education in their own communities; and
WHEREAS, Glenwood’s nurturing residential education program teaches social and leadership skills in a structured and secure environment; all Glenwood graduates enroll in a college, university, trade school and/or military services; and
WHEREAS, Glenwood Academy has been actively engaged in eradicating poverty, injustice, and inequality through the power of residential education for children and families changing the trajectory of their lives through access to increased opportunity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby congratulate Glenwood Academy for 130 years of outstanding service and herewith express its sincere gratitude for the invaluable contributions they have made to the Citizens of Cook County, Illinois; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and that an official copy of the same be presented to Glenwood Academy.
