PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

A RESOLUTION HONORING MARK E. PEYSAKHOVICH ON THE OCCASION OF HIS DEPARTURE FROM AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

 

WHEREAS, Mark E. Peysakhovich will be leaving the American Heart Association on June 30, 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark E. Peysakhovich has dutifully served the American Heart Association for more than eighteen years.  In those years, he served with distinction and earned the respect and affection of his fellow employees, the patients and volunteers; and  

 

WHEREAS, throughout his eighteen years at the American Heart Association, Mark E. Peysakhovich has served the organization in multiple ways.  During his time at the AHA, he focused on health prevention initiatives and ensuring a quality system of care for cardiac and stroke patients in Illinois. He was a member of the Illinois Alliance to Prevent Obesity (IAPO) Leadership Committee, Co-chair of the Childhood Nutrition and Physical Activity in Educational Settings workgroup of IAPO, Co-chair of the State Tobacco Workgroup Prevention Committee, Founding member of Stroke Survivors Empower Each Other and is currently a Board member of genHkids, Mentor at Matter Chicago & Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago, among many other ventures; and 

 

WHEREAS, in his role as Senior Director of Government Relations his many accomplishments include; making Illinois a healthier place to live, work and play with successful passage of Smoke Free Illinois, defending the health of our kids by proactively working for and protecting daily physical education for all students across Illinois, limiting access of tobacco by raising the price of those products in the state of Illinois, Cook County and the city of Chicago where cigarettes are the highest price in the nation, ensuring a seamless chain-of-survival for cardiac arrest victims by requiring AEDs in public places including schools and gyms and requiring that all high school students in Illinois are trained in CPR prior to graduation, establishing a stroke system of care in Illinois ensuring that those who suffer a stroke receive the right care, right away leading to the better patient outcomes, leading the forefront of nutrition policy by working to pass a sweetened beverage tax for Cook County Illinois, covering more than 5.2 million people and becoming the largest government entity in the country to approve this heart-health policy; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout the years, Mark has been active in Illinois politics, and worked with a number of federal, county, state and local elected officials. In addition to this work, he also worked with the American Jewish Committee and Chicagoland SSI Coalition and will continue to work to improve the lives of others in his new endeavors; and

 

WHEREAS, there will likely be no greater anticipated post-AHA pursuit for Mark than fishing and spending time with his wife Barbara and daughter Sophie; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County takes great pleasure in honoring Mark E. Peysakhovich on his eighteen years of service and accomplishments at the AHA, and herewith honors and thanks to him for all that he has done bettering the lives of the citizens of Illinois; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an official copy be tendered to Mark E. Peysakhovich.
