PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING TIM KING, FOUNDER, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF URBAN PREP ACADEMIES STUDENTS AND FACULTY ON THEIR EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR FOR ACHIEVING 100% COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE RATE INTO COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES
WHEREAS, Tim King is the Founder, President and CEO of Urban Prep Academies a nonprofit organization operating a network of public college prep boys' schools in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Urban Prep Academy was the nation's first all-male charter high school aimed at promoting college success; and
WHEREAS, Urban Prep's mission is to provide a comprehensive, high- quality college preparatory education to young men; and
WHEREAS, Urban Prep's motto "WE BELIEVE", is a constant reminder that Urban Prep students will not fall into the trap of stereotypes and low expectations but believe in their potential and their ability to exceed far beyond that potential ; and
WHEREAS, Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men, Englewood Campus opened in 2006, followed by Urban Prep Academy West Campus in 2009 and Urban Prep Academy for Young Men Brownsville Campus in the fall of 2010 are the only all-boys public schools in the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, 888 students are enrolled at Urban Prep Academies; and
WHEREAS, Urban Prep Academies employ 129 total staff members which includes their downtown personnel; and
WHEREAS, 230 students which consists of the entire class of 2017 have been accepted into college/and or a (4) year universities; and
WHEREAS, the majority of Urban Prep graduates are African American males; and
WHEREAS, Urban Prep have graduated 1,054 young men from (2010-2016); and
WHEREAS, $15.1 million dollars have been awarded to Urban Prep students to date; and
WHEREAS, Tim King serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at Northwestern University. He also was named ABC World News "Person of the Week," Chicago's Magazine's Chicagoan of the Year, featured on Good Morning America and recognized by Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton for his work wi...
