PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING PROFESSOR LEWIS POWELL, ESQ.
WHEREAS, Professor Lewis Powell, Esq. has made significant contributions to the African American community and to the citizens of Cook County and in recognition of his long-term service and leadership at the Chicago Bar Association and numerous other civic and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Powell has taught as an adjunct professor at The John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Clinic for over twenty years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Powell was elected President of the Cook County Bar Association in 1994 and has held various positions at the bar association over the past twenty years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Powell has served as the Corporate Counsel for the Austin African American Business Association and is a current board member of the Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Powell has been awarded The Cook County Bar Association Centennial Presidential Award and The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that President Preckwinkle and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, recognizes Professor Lewis Powell, ESQ. for his essential contribution to the health and viability of Cook County.
