PROPOSED RESOLUTION
JOHNNY VELIOTIS, IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS Almighty God in His infinite wisdom has called Johnny Veliotis from our midst, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis was the loving husband of Janet, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis was the dear father of Alex, Peter and the late John Jr, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis moved to Bridgeport at the age of 11 and attended Armour School and then Tilden and Kelly High Schools, and
WHEREAS, at the age of 12, Johnny Veliotis began selling hot dogs from a push cart in front of Spiegel's and Comiskey Park, and
WHEREAS, in 1970, Johnny Veliotis founded the legendary Johnny O's hot dog and Italian beef stand on 35th and Morgan which has been featured on many television food programs over the years for its excellent sandwiches and its famous "Mother in Law" tamale, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis was an original member of the South Loop Chamber of Commerce and was honored by the Chamber in 2011 for his support and dedication to the Bridgeport neighborhood, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis was a member of the Hamburg Club and the Old Neighborhood Italian American Club, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis was known as a generous supporter of local causes and youth sports teams, and
WHEREAS Johnny Veliotis was also a respected singer who once was asked to perform the National Anthem at Comiskey Park; and
WHEREAS all who knew him will attest that Johnny Veliotis was a kind and compassionate man, virtuous of character and gentle in spirit, admired and respected by his many friends and neighbors, and dearly loved by his family, now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County that the Board does hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family and many friends of Johnny Veliotis, and joins them in sorrow at this time of loss, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of same be tendered to the ...
