PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING LEMONAID FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO FUNDRAISE FOR CHARITIES WHILE REMEMBERING 9/11
WHEREAS, River Forest residents on the 700 block of Bonnie Brae wanted to do something positive to commemorate the first anniversary of 9/11; and
WHEREAS, in addition to honoring the day, this small group of residents wanted to encourage kids to get involved; and
WHEREAS, since kids have expertise in all things lemonade, the group decided to raise funds through a lemonade stand, forming LemonAid with the motto “Kids Helping Kids”; and
WHEREAS, after raising $400 that first year selling lemonade and homemade treats, LemonAid has gone on to raise more than $220,000; and
WHEREAS, keeping true to its motto, LemonAid’s fundraising beneficiaries have included Hephzibah Children’s Association, the Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry, Parents Allied with Children, Teachers for Tomorrow, Shriners Hospital for Children, and Maywood Fine Arts, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, this year, the 16th Annual LemonAid will be held on the 700 block of Bonnie Brae on September 11th from 3:00-7:00 and will include lemonade, popcorn, baked goods, and live entertainment; and
WHEREAS, a drive-through donation lane will also be available to drivers on Chicago Avenue at Bonnie Brae; and
WHEREAS, this year’s proceeds will benefit Kidz Express, a south Austin-based initiative in which older adolescents who have grown up in the program are hired as junior mentors to model good behavior and tutor younger participants after school and during the summer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize and honor LemonAid for its dedication to raising money for those in need.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be tendered to LemonAid to encourage its commitment to serving the community of River Forest and beyond.
