Bannos from our midst; and WHEREAS, George Bannos was the beloved husband of Patty (nee Pitsis); and WHEREAS, George Bannos was the loving father of Andrew and Alexis; dear brother of Jimmy (Annamarie); son of the late Gus and Catherine (nee Malevitis); and uncle and great-uncle of many; and WHEREAS, George Bannos along with his brother and partner Jimmy were instrumental in popularizing Cajun and Creole food in Chicago featured in their Heaven on Seven restaurants; and WHEREAS, George and Jimmy Bannos became business partners in 1980 when they opened new Garland Coffee Shop in the Loop and later changed it to the renowned New Orleans-focused spot; and WHEREAS, George Bannos comes from a long line of restaurateurs, including his parents and both sets of grandparents; and WHEREAS, George Bannos' legacy also continues on with his nephew Jimmy Jr.'s acc...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

GEORGE BANNOS, IN MEMORIAM 

 

WHEREAS, on August 8, 2017, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom called George G. Bannos from our midst; and

 

WHEREAS, George Bannos was the beloved husband of Patty (nee Pitsis); and

 

WHEREAS, George Bannos was the loving father of Andrew and Alexis; dear brother of Jimmy (Annamarie); son of the late Gus and Catherine (nee Malevitis); and uncle and great-uncle of many; and

 

WHEREAS, George Bannos along with his brother and partner Jimmy were instrumental in popularizing Cajun and Creole food in Chicago featured in their Heaven on Seven restaurants; and

 

WHEREAS, George and Jimmy Bannos became business partners in 1980 when they opened new Garland Coffee Shop in the Loop and later changed it to the renowned New Orleans-focused spot; and

 

WHEREAS, George Bannos comes from a long line of restaurateurs, including his parents and both sets of grandparents; and

 

WHEREAS, George Bannos’ legacy also continues on with his nephew Jimmy Jr.’s acclaimed Purple Pig Restaurant; and

 

WHEREAS, George Bannos enjoyed running the front-of-the-house of Heaven on Seven where his absence will be deeply missed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby offer its deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of George Bannos; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the family of George C. Bannos so that his memory may be so honored and ever cherished.
