Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION MANUFACTURING AWARENESS AND APPRECIATION MONTH, OCTOBER 2017 WHEREAS, Cook County in partnership with the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will and the City of Chicago, the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium, was designated an 'Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership' Manufacturing Community by the United States Department of Commerce in June, 2014 and re-designated in September 2016 for an additional two-year term; and WHEREAS, Northeast Illinois is a leading manufacturing center whose metal manufacturers generate more than $25 billion in annual revenues and act as a driver of regional economic development; and WHEREAS, more than 4,000 fabricated metal and machinery manufacturing firms located in the metro Chicago area provide well-paying manufacturing jobs for over 110,000 employees and contribute to broad-based prosperity; and WHEREAS, Cook County in partnership with the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium are collaborating with manufa...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

MANUFACTURING AWARENESS AND APPRECIATION MONTH, OCTOBER 2017

WHEREAS, Cook County in partnership with the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will and the City of Chicago, the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium, was designated an 'Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership' Manufacturing Community by the United States Department of Commerce in June, 2014 and re-designated in September 2016 for an additional two-year term; and

WHEREAS, Northeast Illinois is a leading manufacturing center whose metal manufacturers generate more than $25 billion in annual revenues and act as a driver of regional economic development; and

WHEREAS, more than 4,000 fabricated metal and machinery manufacturing firms located in the metro Chicago area provide well-paying manufacturing jobs for over 110,000 employees and contribute to broad-based prosperity; and

WHEREAS, Cook County in partnership with the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium are collaborating with manufacturers, educational institutions and workforce providers, nonprofits, trade associations, and economic development organizations to support and strengthen the region's manufacturing sector; and

WHEREAS, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) have designated October 6, 2017 as National Manufacturing Day and October as Manufacturing Awareness and Appreciation month; and

WHEREAS, manufacturers, educational institutions, and other organizations in Cook County will be hosting events on October 6 and throughout the month of October to showcase the high-skilled and well-paying jobs afforded by a career in manufacturing, to support and promote a positive public image of manufacturing, and to ensure the continued growth of the manufacturing industry; and
