PROPOSED RESOLUTION
100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION FOR DOMINIC JOSEPH MAUTONE
WHEREAS, The members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are proud to congratulate Dominic Joseph Mautone, an esteemed Cook County resident on the occasion of the celebration of his 100th birthday on September 23, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone was born in Chicago on September 23, 1917, the son of Antoinette Trotta and Rafaele Mautone; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone's parents owned a fruit stand on Forker Street and in addition to Italian, his mother spoke Yiddish to accommodate her Jewish customers; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone had seven siblings, 3 brothers and 4 sisters: Louis, Mary, Patsy, Margaret, Dominic, Concetta, Carolyn and Philip; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone married Mary Schullo on April 23, 1942; and they had two children: Antoinette [Peluso] and Eugenia [Franco]; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone has one granddaughter, Lisa [Bombacino Morales] and two great grandchildren, Robert Dominic Morales [9] and Alessandra Eugenia Morales [8]; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone served his country during World War II, and was stationed in Mari, Italy where he was Assistant to the Chef in the barracks kitchen; and earned a Good Conduct Medal for his service, and was a member of The Knights of Columbus and would meet on Madison Street; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone loved the game of baseball which he played most of his life and had his own team called the Fosco's and played at Sheridan Park, Garibaldi Park, Phillips Stadium and Chinatown; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone also enjoyed dancing and he and his friends frequented the Aragon and Trianon Ballrooms; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone enjoyed many hobbies, included "playing the horses" and to this day still frequents the Off Track Betting Parlor in Oak Brook Terrace; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mautone worked as a laborer in the building of the subway system and then worked for the Cook County Forest Preserve until retirement.
