Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE HANOVER TOWNSHIP EMERGENCY SERVICES UNIT WHEREAS, The Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) has presented the Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit with the 2017 Emergency Management Agency of the Year award; and WHEREAS, the Hanover Township Department of Emergency Services (HTES) is trained to respond to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency events to either assist primary emergency responders or operate independently in times of natural and manmade disasters; and WHEREAS, this dedicated group of professional volunteers, and one paid director, exists to provide a properly equipped, trained, and ready unit to assist Hanover Township residents and the public safety agencies that serve them; and WHEREAS, in March of 2016, HTES hosted its third annual Emergency Services Training Conference in Bartlett, Illinois, the conference has developed a reputation in the Chicago area for emergency service professionals to receiv...

HONORING THE HANOVER TOWNSHIP EMERGENCY SERVICES UNIT

WHEREAS, The Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) has presented the Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit with the 2017 Emergency Management Agency of the Year award; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover Township Department of Emergency Services (HTES) is trained to respond to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency events to either assist primary emergency responders or operate independently in times of natural and manmade disasters; and

WHEREAS, this dedicated group of professional volunteers, and one paid director, exists to provide a properly equipped, trained, and ready unit to assist Hanover Township residents and the public safety agencies that serve them; and

WHEREAS, in March of 2016, HTES hosted its third annual Emergency Services Training Conference in Bartlett, Illinois, the conference has developed a reputation in the Chicago area for emergency service professionals to receive timely and efficient training from a variety of instructors covering a wide range of topics; and

WHEREAS, in June 2016, HTES was recertified by the Cook County Department of Homeland Security, certification by the county recognizes the department's training program, disaster planning, and emergency response capabilities; and

WHEREAS, HTES remains the only certified agency in Cook County; and

WHEREAS, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) presented HTES with certification as a StormReady Community, according to NOAA, HTES demonstrated various methods of monitoring weather, receiving watches and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS), and for disseminating severe weather warnings through the community; and

WHEREAS, last year department volunteer personnel logged over 2,800 training hours, 4,000 detail hours, and responded to 46 emergency calls for assistance; and
