PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING CRISIS CENTER FOR SOUTH SUBURBIA DURING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, the month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month which evolved from the "Day of Unity" held in October 1981 and conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence; and
WHEREAS, domestic violence victim advocates, domestic violence service providers, domestic violence first responders, and other individuals use this month to increase awareness of the issue during this month; and
WHEREAS, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia, which has advocated and provided services for those impacted by domestic violence since 1979, has worked tirelessly since that time to provide a safe haven for women and children forced to flee violence of their homes; and
WHEREAS, the Crisis Center of South Suburbia offers an array of services and programs aimed at prevention, education, intervention, and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia fulfills the mission of Domestic Violence Awareness Month by mourning those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrating those who have survived, and connecting those who work to end violence; and
WHEREAS, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia is coordinating and participating in a variety of events in October in reflection of Domestic Violence Awareness Month including a Dance 4 Awareness raising money for victims and survivors of Domestic Violence on October 14, 2017; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on the behalf of the residents of Cook County, do hereby the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and thanks the Crisis Center of South Suburbia for their exemplary work; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and a suitable copy of the same be tendered to the Crisis Center for South Suburbia.
