PROPOSED RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING ERIC SOLORIO ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TEAM ON WINNING THE ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 2A CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, Eric Solorio Academy High School (Solorio) is an outstanding public high school located in the City of Chicago's Gage Park neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Solorio has been rated Level 1+ by Chicago Public Schools which is defined as a "nationally competitive school with opportunity to share best practices with others"; and
WHEREAS, Solorio is renowned as an exemplary high school by ranking within the list of Top 20 "Best Public Schools in Chicago" by Chicago Magazine; and
WHEREAS, Solorio has gained national recognition for its excellence in education by the 2017 U.S. News and World Report, which rated Solorio as a Silver Medal School for its high level of college readiness; and
WHEREAS, Solorio's varsity soccer team, the Sun Warriors, won the state soccer Class 2A and 3A Championship as regulated by the Illinois High School Association on November 4, 2017; and
WHEREAS, this victory concludes the 2017 Illinois High School Association Class 2A and 3A Boys Soccer State Finals; and
WHEREAS, this is the first state championship for Solorio Academy and the fourth for a Chicago Public School; and
WHEREAS, the team won under the leadership of Team Captain Oscar Ram?rez and Coach Adri?n Calleros; and
WHEREAS, this victory is of special significance to both the team and the student body of Solorio due to the passing of former Sun Warrior Christian Morales in Summer 2016; and
WHEREAS, Christian Morales was a key member and role model to the soccer team and is deeply missed by his teammates and coach; and
WHEREAS, students at Solorio created a mural within the school as a tribute to Christian Morales and his team has continued to honor him with this historic championship.
