PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING WHITNEY M. YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL DOLPHINS 2017 STATE CHAMPIONS
WHEREAS, members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners are proud to recognize excellence in high school sports; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance of team sports in developing the qualities of respect, collaboration, hard work and dedication in young adults; and
WHEREAS, the Whitney M. Young Dolphins Girls Tennis Team excelled in the sport during the 2016-2017 season with a record of (13-5); and
WHEREAS, on October 28, 2017 the girls varsity tennis team of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School captured the state title along with Stevenson High School; and
WHEREAS, this is a first time in history for any girls team to win the title, Senn High School's boys tennis team was the last Chicago Public Schools team to win the title in 1944; and
WHEREAS, under the direction of Coach Dempsey Willard and Coach Carl Abram the team also won the city championship and the sectional championship; and
WHEREAS, Darinka Stepan and Camryn Salter were finalists in the main draw and Madison and McKenzie Beckham (twins) were successful in the back draw and contributed to the win; and
WHEREAS, Sarah Williams won her first round match and added to the win; and
WHEREAS, the team will be honored at the Chicago Public Schools board meeting on December, 6th 2017; and
WHEREAS, Teammates, Camryn Salter, Darinka Stepan, Madison Beckham, Mackenzie Beckham, Sarah Williams are to be congratulated on leading Whitney M. Young High School Girls Tennis team to a great season and impressive championship we are all proud of.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners join the Whitney M. Young School family, Dr. Joyce D. Kenner, friends and community in congratulating the coaching staff and team members of the Whitney M. Young team on their great achievement and their sense of teamwork, respect, hard work and dedi...
