Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER VICTORIA MENDOZA, OFFICER DAVID PEREZ, AND MR. RICARDO JIMENEZ WHEREAS, On July 21, 2017, 9th District Chicago Police Officer David Perez (Star #14864) and Chicago Police Officer Victoria Mendoza (Star #14334) were responding to a call of a robbery in progress in the 4300 block of South Ashland; and WHEREAS, Upon arrival at the scene officer Perez and officer Mendoza observed multiple subjects exiting the business and matching the descriptions given of the possible offenders; and WHEREAS, When Officer Perez and Officer Mendoza attempted to stop the subjects the offenders turned and began firing multiple rounds in the direction of the officers; and WHEREAS, Officer Mendoza sustained a gunshot to the knee; and WHEREAS, Officer Perez continued pursuing offenders on foot while encountering multiple rounds of gunfire; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ricardo Jimenez, owner of Leslie's Hair Salon, a local business in the area, emerged from his establis...

RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER VICTORIA MENDOZA, OFFICER DAVID PEREZ, AND MR. RICARDO JIMENEZ

WHEREAS, On July 21, 2017, 9th District Chicago Police Officer David Perez (Star #14864) and Chicago Police Officer Victoria Mendoza (Star #14334) were responding to a call of a robbery in progress in the 4300 block of South Ashland; and

WHEREAS, Upon arrival at the scene officer Perez and officer Mendoza observed multiple subjects exiting the business and matching the descriptions given of the possible offenders; and

WHEREAS, When Officer Perez and Officer Mendoza attempted to stop the subjects the offenders turned and began firing multiple rounds in the direction of the officers; and

WHEREAS, Officer Mendoza sustained a gunshot to the knee; and

WHEREAS, Officer Perez continued pursuing offenders on foot while encountering multiple rounds of gunfire; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ricardo Jimenez, owner of Leslie's Hair Salon, a local business in the area, emerged from his establishment and observed Officer Mendoza in distress; and

WHEREAS, Despite the ongoing gunfire exchanged, Mr. Ricardo Jimenez saw Officer Mendoza bleeding from her knee and attempted to tie a tourniquet around her wound to slow the bleeding and assist her until medical units had arrived; and

WHEREAS, thanks to the superb training, quick reflexes and courage of the two Chicago Police Officers the armed offenders were apprehended and later charged accordingly; and,

WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby applaud Chicago Police Officer David Perez and Chicago Police Officer Victoria Mendoza for their professionalism, valor and exceptional efforts on behalf of the citizenry of Chicago and Cook County; and, therefore

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby extend their gratitude and thanks for the bravery of Mr. Ricardo Jimenez jumping into action to assist wounded Officer Victory Mendoza; and
