PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION HONORING OFFICER LEO AUGLE AND OFFICER COLIN RYAN
WHEREAS, On May, 2, 2017, 9th District Chicago Police Officer Leo Augle (Star # 12848) and Chicago Police Officer Colin Ryan (Star #18694) were driving in a covert vehicle conducting gang surveillance; and
WHEREAS, While stopped at the intersection of 4300 South Ashland, two vehicles surrounded Officer Augle and Office Ryan’s police vehicle and opened fire with high a powered assault rifle; and
WHEREAS, the attackers fired 28 shots, 23 of which struck the officer’s vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Officer Augle sustained a gunshot wound to his back and Officer Ryan sustained a gunshot wound to his arm; and
WHEREAS, While being wounded, both Officer Augle and Officer Ryan returned fire and were later able to provide descriptions of the offenders and the vehicles involved; and
WHEREAS, the information being provided by the officers led to the arrest of the man who drove the dangerous gunmen; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners praises Officer Augle and Officer Ryan for their actions under duress and their remarkable bravery and rightfully commends those officers of the law who put the greater good ahead of their own well-being and who went beyond the normal call of duty in an effort to protect their fellow citizens; and, therefore
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby applaud Chicago Police Officer Leo Augle and Chicago Police Officer Colin Ryan for their professionalism, valor and exceptional efforts on behalf of the citizenry of Chicago and Cook County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Officer Leo Augle and Officer Colin Ryan as a token of our appreciation and esteem.
