PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING ENGLEWOOD RISING
WHEREAS, Englewood Rising has made significant contributions to the African-American community and to the residents of Cook County; and
WHEREAS, Englewood Rising is a community-led rebranding campaign that aims to change Greater Englewood’s public perception by sharing positive stories of its residents and its rich history and culture; and
WHEREAS, Englewood 2016 Quality-of-Life Plan honors the late Michael Paul Anderson, a popular local artist and anti-violence advocate, who first created the community’s “Englewood Rising” t-shirts; and
WHEREAS, Englewood Rising focuses on the community’s greatest assets, its own people, and showcases their resilience, commitment to local development, and dedication to meaningful initiatives impacting the neighborhood in which they live, play and work in; and
WHEREAS, Englewood Rising creates a strong community through its member organizations by working with neighbors, local businesses and government officials to find real solutions and drive change; and
WHEREAS, its member organizations are: Bright Community Services, Englewood Portal, Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation , Grow Greater: Englewood, Imagine Englewood if…, Neighborhood Lending Services/ Neighborhood Housing Service, R.A.G.E. (Resident Association of Greater Englewood), Teamwork Englewood and Totally Positive Productions; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, recognize Englewood Rising for its essential contribution to the health and viability of Cook County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Englewood Rising.
