Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING MAYOR EMERITUS OF EVANSTON ELIZABETH TISDAHL WHEREAS, Mayor (Emeritus) Elizabeth Tisdahl of Evanston has lived in Evanston and served the community for almost four decades; and WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl helped found Mothers Against Gangs and served on the Evanston Community Foundation Advisory Committee from 1987 to 1995; and WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl spent twelve years on the Evanston Township High School Board of Education, serving two of those years as the president of that organization and became the alderman of Evanston's 7th Ward from 2003 until her election as mayor in 2009; and WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl has also initiated a series of anti-crime (specifically anti-gang) programs, including a gun buyback initiative, in an attempt to curb rising rates of violent crime; and WHEREAS, she forged a relationship with Northwestern University to address serious issues of student conduct and its impact on the Evanston community; and WHEREAS, she pushed to create...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

HONORING MAYOR EMERITUS OF EVANSTON ELIZABETH TISDAHL

 

WHEREAS, Mayor (Emeritus) Elizabeth Tisdahl of Evanston has lived in Evanston and served the community for almost four decades; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl helped found Mothers Against Gangs and served on the Evanston Community Foundation Advisory Committee from 1987 to 1995; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl spent twelve years on the Evanston Township High School Board of Education, serving two of those years as the president of that organization and became the alderman of Evanston's 7th Ward from 2003 until her election as mayor in 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl has also initiated a series of anti-crime (specifically anti-gang) programs, including a gun buyback initiative, in an attempt to curb rising rates of violent crime; and

 

WHEREAS, she forged a relationship with Northwestern University to address serious issues of student conduct and its impact on the Evanston community; and

 

WHEREAS, she pushed to create more city jobs for teens and young adults as key to many of the successes she had during her two terms serving as the "face of Evanston"; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, recognize former Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl for her essential contribution to the health and viability of Cook County; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl.
