PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE MARIST RED HAWKS ON THEIR HISTORIC 2017 VOLLEYBALL SEASON
WHEREAS on November 11, 2017, the Marist women's volleyball team known as the "Red Hawks" defeated the Minooka volleyball team in the Class 4A final in Redbird Arena to win the program's first Illinois state championship; and
WHEREAS the "Red Hawks" played a challenging schedule during the 2017 season that included winning the Wheaton Classic, the Asics Challenge, the Michelle Smith Catholic Classic Tournament and its first East Suburban Catholic Conference title since 2013; and
WHEREAS the "Red Hawks" finished the season with 41 victories including a final three set victory over Minooka that gave the school its first women's volleyball state championship; and
WHEREAS the "Red Hawks" ended the season as the second ranked squad in the nation in the rankings provided by MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings; and
WHEREAS the Marist volleyball program has, most importantly, helped the players learn the value of teamwork and self-discipline, and develop the leadership skills necessary to succeed on and off the volleyball court; and
WHEREAS under the guidance of coach Jordan Vidovic and assistant coach Maggie Strus, the women's team volleyball team of Molly Murrihy, Savannah Thompson, Natalie Davidson, Grace McGrath, Annie McKenna, Grace Reilly, Katie Hogan, Katie Doah, Abby Callahan, Mattie McCabe, Maggie Meyer, Grace Green, Anna Simmons, Katie Canavan, Camryn Hannah, Maddie Arundral, Avery Jedry, Mairead Boyle and Katie Mather has consistently and diligently worked toward the goal of winning the Illinois state title and in the process they have brought great joy to their school, their community, the City of Chicago and the County of Cook; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County does hereby congratulate the Marist women's volleyball team on their historic achievement this season; and
