PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION HONORING THE 40th ANNIVERSARY OF “THE SOUNDS”
WHEREAS, The Sounds is a free community newspaper for and about the residents of nine Chicago neighborhoods, including Sauganash, Sauganash Park, Sauganash Village, Sauganash Woods, Brynford Park, Edgebrook, Wildwood, Lincolnwood Towers and Indian Woods; and,
WHEREAS, The Sounds was launched in 1977 as a not-for-profit corporation by ten families in the neighborhood as a successor to the Sauganash Echoes established in 1967; and,
WHEREAS, The mission of the Sounds is to be of service to the general area, its people and organizations; to help maintain and further a spirit of community pride and neighborhood friendship and stability; to introduce newcomers and develop better relations between neighbors, old and new; and,
WHEREAS, The Sounds is published 20 times a year, September through June, with a circulation of 7,200. Papers are delivered to households every other Saturday; and,
WHEREAS, The paper focuses on news, information and events happening in the area. Articles and photos are submitted by residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Cook County Board of Commissioners hereby commemorates the Sounds on 40 years serving the community.
