PROPOSED RESOLUTION
HONORING THE NORTHWEST CHICAGO HISTORICAL SOCIETY
WHEREAS, The Northwest Chicago Historical Society, which started out as the Jefferson Park Historical Society in 2001, documents and saves the local history of Northwest Side neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the organization provides awareness and creates appreciation for the Northwest Side’s place in Chicago’s and Illinois’ history; and
WHEREAS, a key activity of The Northwest Chicago Historical Society is to correct some misleading historical assumptions; and
WHEREAS, one misleading historic assumption is Abraham Lincoln slept at the Dickenson Inn on Milwaukee Avenue, rather is was Steven A. Douglas who slept there one night; and
WHEREAS, the organization produces a semiannual 28-page newsletter to people interested in local history and presents free historical talks throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, on January 18, 2018, The Northwest Chicago Historical Society will hold an event entitled Chicago Flashback: The People and Events That Shaped a City's History at the Edgebrook Library; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President and the Cook County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the residents of Cook County, recognize The Northwest Chicago Historical Society for its essential contribution to the health and viability of Cook County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this text be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body, and an official copy of same be presented to The Northwest Chicago Historical Society.
