PROPOSED RESOLUTION
REQUESTING A HEARING OF THE LEGISLATIVE AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS THE COUNTY ENTERING INTO INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENTS CONCERNING TRAININGS AND INVESTIGATIONS INTO POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTINGS IN SUBURBAN COOK COUNTY
WHEREAS, many Suburban Cook County cities and villages lack the proper resources to investigate police officer-involved shootings; and
WHEREAS, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart on January 18, 2018 sent a letter to all Suburban Cook County Police Departments offering assistance from the Sheriff’s office for training on proper police conduct and to assist in the investigation of police officer-involved shootings (Attached as Exhibit A);
WHEREAS, Cook County has a tradition of entering into intergovernmental agreements with the cities and villages of Cook County to provide training and investigative help; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Legislation and Intergovernmental Relations Committee hold a hearing on the best way to provide assistance to Cook County cities and villages to provide training and investigative help for police officer-involved shootings.
