Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION HONORING THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS METRO-SUBURBAN WHEREAS, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Metro-Suburban is a community mental health and social service organization dedicated to building better lives for those affected by mental illness; and WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban improves the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by mental illness by providing education, support and advocacy; and WHERAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban partners with 17 local schools to educate students on the signs and symptoms of mental illness, the importance of early detection and treatment, and how to help themselves or a friend in need; and WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban believes that by using a young person's testimony in the classroom, it can greatly reduce the stigma associated with mental illness within this generation; and WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban operates the oldest free standing Drop-in Center in The State of Illinois, by providing so...

HONORING THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS METRO-SUBURBAN

WHEREAS, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Metro-Suburban is a community mental health and social service organization dedicated to building better lives for those affected by mental illness; and

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban improves the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by mental illness by providing education, support and advocacy; and

WHERAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban partners with 17 local schools to educate students on the signs and symptoms of mental illness, the importance of early detection and treatment, and how to help themselves or a friend in need; and

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban believes that by using a young person's testimony in the classroom, it can greatly reduce the stigma associated with mental illness within this generation; and

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban operates the oldest free standing Drop-in Center in The State of Illinois, by providing socialization, life skills and job readiness and placement opportunities; and

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban partners with five local hospitals including The Hines VA, to provide recovery support and education services making recovery a possibility for psychiatric patients; and,

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban currently serves Oak Park, River Forest, Cicero, Berwyn, Lyons and Proviso Township; and

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban continues to expand its reach into the western suburbs by providing alternatives to emergency room visits through a Living Room in LaGrange, with a second Living Room location opening in Broadview, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, NAMI Metro-Suburban provides all services, including its family education and family support groups, free of charge; and
