PROPOSED RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION HONORING THE O’CONNOR IRISH RADIO SHOW
WHEREAS, Since moving to Chicago from Ireland in 1966, Mike O’Connor volunteered on various local Irish radio programs as a spokesperson for local clubs; and,
WHEREAS, Mike O’Connor’s passion for Irish sports, politics, and most especially music, found an outlet in his own new program; and,
WHEREAS, The Mike O'Connor Show debuted on a rainy Friday evening in November of 1971; and,
WHEREAS, The show moved stations and time slots until finding a lasting home at WPNA Radio, where it focuses on the Irish community in Chicago, supporting Clubs, Benefits, and all things Irish; and,
WHEREAS, Musicians, film makers, authors, politicians, both from Ireland and Chicago have spent time behind the microphone; and,
WHEREAS, The show is a living institution with a devoted and engaged audience with three generations of listeners; and,
WHEREAS, The Mike O'Connor show evolved into The O'Connor Show and continues to serve the Irish community in Chicago, honoring the legacy of Mike O'Connor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners commends The O’Connor Show, and that a suitable copy of this resolution be distributed to the O’Connor family.
