Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION RESOLUTION HONORING THE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE WHEELING TOWNSHIP FOOD PANTRY DURING NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH WHEREAS, National Volunteer Month takes place during the month of April; and WHEREAS, to highlight National Volunteer Month, Wheeling Township recognized all of the volunteers that are vital to their operations on a yearly basis; and WHEREAS, last year hundreds of volunteers in the area worked 6,834 volunteer hours for senior programs, and 4,227 volunteer hours at the food pantry in Wheeling Township alone; and WHEREAS, two of the largest volunteer turnouts in the township happen for the Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels; and WHEREAS, in the last year, the Wheeling Township Food Pantry had 5,343 visits, feeding 11,912 people, 3,229 of which were children; and WHEREAS, for the Meals on Wheels program, more than 13,179 meals were delivered to homebound seniors over the age of 60, and individual who are disabled, by several hundred community volunteers; and WH...

PROPOSED RESOLUTION

RESOLUTION HONORING THE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE WHEELING TOWNSHIP FOOD PANTRY DURING NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH

WHEREAS, National Volunteer Month takes place during the month of April; and

WHEREAS, to highlight National Volunteer Month, Wheeling Township recognized all of the volunteers that are vital to their operations on a yearly basis; and

WHEREAS, last year hundreds of volunteers in the area worked 6,834 volunteer hours for senior programs, and 4,227 volunteer hours at the food pantry in Wheeling Township alone; and

WHEREAS, two of the largest volunteer turnouts in the township happen for the Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels; and

WHEREAS, in the last year, the Wheeling Township Food Pantry had 5,343 visits, feeding 11,912 people, 3,229 of which were children; and

WHEREAS, for the Meals on Wheels program, more than 13,179 meals were delivered to homebound seniors over the age of 60, and individual who are disabled, by several hundred community volunteers; and

WHEREAS, each year, Wheeling Township honors and recognizes its donors and volunteers at a celebration luncheon, which will be held in mid-May, where awards will be given to the Outstanding Meals on Wheels volunteer, substitute Driver, Friendly Visitor, Outstanding Donor, and Food Pantry Volunteer; and

WHEREAS, at the Township's Town Hall meeting on April 10th, the Senior & Disability Services Department recognized three outstanding Township volunteers; Julie Wright, Jack DeCarlo, and Adelore 'Slim' Petrie, all of whom have served the community for decades as volunteers; and

WHEREAS, according to the Director of General Assistance Julie Villarreal, the Food pantry would not be possible to run without their volunteers as they use no tax dollars to operate the pantry.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby honor and recognize the great volunteers of Wheeling Township, and the department heads who coordinate their volunteer efforts ...
