His college and graduate work in theology were completed at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, Mundelein, Illinois, the seminary for the Archdiocese of Chicago; and WHEREAS, Father Jay was ordained a priest on May 10, 1972. HONORING FATHER JAMES FINNO ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO AND AS PASTOR OF SAINT STEPHEN DEACON AND MARTYR CATHOLIC CHURCH, TINLEY PARK, ILLINOIS

WHEREAS, Father James Finno known by his congregants at Saint Stephen Deacon and Martyr Catholic Church, Tinley Park, as Father Jay, will retire from the Archdiocese of Chicago after forty-six years of faithful service; and

WHEREAS Father Jay, the oldest of the five children of James and Rita Finno, was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Father Jay is a graduate of Saint Thomas More Grade School and Leo High School. His college and graduate work in theology were completed at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, Mundelein, Illinois, the seminary for the Archdiocese of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Father Jay was ordained a priest on May 10, 1972. He was an associate pastor at Saint Mary in Evanston from 1972 to 1979, Infant Jesus of Prague in Flossmoor, 1979 to 1985 and Queen of Apostles in Riverdale 1985 to 1988; and from July 1, 1988 until October 31, 1999 was the pastor of Saint Lawrence O'Toole in Matteson, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, in November, 1999, Father Jay founded Saint Stephen Deacon and Martyr Parish, in Tinley Park. The church has a congregation of nearly four thousand families and is one of the largest and newest Catholic Churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago. While his main work has always been as a parish priest, he has also been involved with various Archdiocesan Leadership roles including 3 years as a Dean and a variety of community and social action activities over the years; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, on behalf of the 5.2 million residents of Cook County takes great pleasure in honoring Father James Finno on his retirement and herewith honors and thanks him for all that he has done bettering the lives of the citizens of Cook County, Illinois; and
